SKIN INTELLIGENCE
Radiance is notapplied. It is unlocked.
Clé de Peau Beauté was founded in 1982 as Shiseido's luxury beauty house, with a name that states the intent — the key to skin's beauty. The science behind it is Skin Intelligence: the skin's own capacity to tell a beneficial stimulus from a harmful one, and to hold itself in balance.

THE LABORATORIES
Understanding skin before formulating for it.
Our laboratories have worked on Skin Intelligence since the house was founded, drawing on Shiseido's long history in skin science. In 2023 that work produced the first visualisation of the skin gene network — evidence that skin operates as a sensing system of its own.
Everything in the collection follows from that finding. Formulas are built to work with the skin's own responses rather than override them, which is why the results read as radiance rather than correction.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
How to build the ritual
In what order do I apply the steps?
Thinnest to richest. Lotion first to prepare the skin, then serum, then emulsion or cream, and sunscreen last in the morning. Let each layer settle for a moment — pressing it in with the palms works better than rubbing.
How much of each product should I use?
Less than most people expect. A pump of lotion, two or three drops of serum, and a pearl-sized amount of cream are enough for the face and neck. More product does not speed anything up; it only changes how the layers sit.
Can I simplify the ritual if I am short on time?
Yes. Cleanser, serum and sunscreen in the morning covers the essentials, and cleanser plus cream at night is a complete routine. The steps you skip are the ones to add back first when you have more time.
Where does sunscreen fit?
Last, every morning, after moisturiser — and it is the one step worth never skipping. Reapply through the day if you are outdoors. Everything underneath it is there to support the skin, not to replace protection.
How long before I notice a difference?
Comfort and hydration usually register within days; changes in tone and texture take longer, closer to eight weeks of consistent use. Radiance is cumulative, so a routine followed most days beats a perfect one followed occasionally.
My skin is sensitive. Where should I start?
Begin with the gentlest cleanser and a single treatment step, and add one product at a time with a week between each so you can tell what is doing what. Patch test behind the ear first if your skin reacts easily.
Can I wear makeup over the skincare?
Yes, and the collection is designed for it. Let the last skincare step settle for a minute or two before applying complexion — foundation and concealer sit more evenly, and wear better, on skin that has been prepared.
How should I store the products?
Cool, dry and out of direct light, with lids closed. Formulas built around active ingredients are sensitive to heat and air, so a bathroom windowsill is the worst place for them. Most keep well for a year unopened.
